Students interested in this service learning opportunity will assist with the Special Olympics which have year-round games. People with and without disabilities can be healthy. Individuals with certain disabilities, however, are at higher risk of developing diseases. The Special Olympics provides individuals with disabilities to participate in physical activity and promote healthy lifestyles.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of functions including office work during the off season (data entry, public relations, seeking out new sponsors) and assisting in events. Students are encouraged to provide support and encouragement for the athletes. Students may also have the opportunity to participate in events including handing out award medals to athletes and playing in the Unified Sports Program alongside an Olympic athlete.
Students interested will need to sign up to volunteer on the website. You may also contact Janie to find out what you can do to help during the off season.
*Events are held in St. George
