Iron County Youth Detention Center
82 N 100 E
Students interested in this service learning opportunity will be able to work directly with troubled youth ages 15-18. There may be many factors that contribute to youth committing crimes that put them in the detention center including: dysfunctional household, depression, substance abuse, physical or emotional abuse, or mental illness. These children need a positive role model during this challenging time in life.
As a volunteer, students will be able to assist the staff with programs and activities for the youth at the center. Students will also be encouraged to create their own activities or lessons (i.e. drug issues, the dangers of drugs) from a health perspective.
